Hailing from Co. Laois, Robert Harvey is a member of Donal Lunny’s supergroup Ciorras and has performed on TV on a number of occasions. Jonny Tennant has sung and played with bands across Europe over the last 10 years. The lads will be performing a mixture of Irish, Scottish, English and Bulgarian traditional music.

Reggae Night, Blackrock Market Cafe

Reggae Night – Thurs April 21st

The last in our current programme of Thursday evening events will be celebrated with an outdoor barbeque in the market, with Carribean-style buffet meal and reggae music from 7:30 – 10:30pm. Cost is €15 for two-course meal and entertainment – see poster attached. Please call or email to confirm your bookings!

Welcoming the May-O

May Day will be celebrated on Sun May 1st with a sneak preview of an upcoming show involving theatre, music, song and dance. On the theme of pagan rituals, folk traditions and songs and music associated with May Day, the entertainment will take place in the cafe and throughout the market on sunday afternoon, 4-6pm.

Visual Art

The current exhibition by local artists Sylvia Tennent, Justin Tennent, Morgan Wymes and Camilla Templeton-Smith will remain in the cafe for a further 3 weeks, so now is your last opportunity to view or purchase any of the works on show. On Tues 10th May we will be opening a new exhibition, further details of which will follow shortly.

Blackrock Market Cafe Rumi Night

Now taking bookings for an evening of poetry, music and middle-Eastern delicacies, exploring the poetry of 13th century Persian mystic, Jalaluddin Rumi…

‘Ar an gCarraig’

The next Irish-language night will be held at the cafe on Thurs. 24th March from 7.30-10.30pm. Special guests this month are singer,Seosaimhín ni Bheaglaoich and poet, Declan Collinge. With an emphasis on cómhra agus craic; Irish speakers, beginners and improvers all welcome. Admission is €20, which includes a three-course meal and complimentary drink; live music, poetry and entertainment. ‘Rumi Night’

Thursday March 31st from 7.30 – 9.30pm, will be a night of Sufi mysticism and poetry. The evening will include an introduction to the work of 12th century poet and mystic, Jalaludin Rumi; with poetry readings, music and extravagent Middle-Eastern style buffet meal. Please contact us early to book a seat, as places are already quite limited, but do spread the word to anyone with an interest in esoteric poetry! ‘Lovers, Friends and Family’ Exhibition

The current exhibition will be on show at the cafe for another two weeks, so there is still time to come and admire, or purchase any of the works on show. Featuring four talented local artists with distinctive and varied styles; Silvia Tennant, Justin Tennant, Morgan Wymesand Camilla Templeton-Smith. A proportion or any proceeds from sales have been pledged to children’s charity, Barnardos.
