Events- Blackrock Market Cafe

Legendary Landscapes of Ireland – Thursday 23rd June, 7pm

All are welcome to attend a talk to be given by Artist, Veronica Heywood, telling of the stories of the Irish Landscape and the explorations taken to paint these fabled places. The illustrated talk will take place in the Cafe, Thurs. June 23rd at 7pm with refreshments provided. Please see note on the artist below.

Veronica Heywood is highly regarded for her beautiful watercolours and accepted by many as one of Ireland’s leading watercolourists,  she is also a tireless and respected campaigner on behalf of the environment, perceiving the two ‘jobs’ as naturally symbiotic.

“Combining my two commitments, I paint to warn of threats to the environment. I observe the Irish landscape closely, like the many skins of an onion unfurling for me, revealing layer after deeper layer, a palimpsest, with thousands of years of exuberant life leaving faint traces on the surface. My inspiration and guide to my painterly locations being ancient epic poems from the golden age of Ireland. These paintings are my response to what may be the source…”

Bloomsday in Blackrock – Thursday June 16th

The cafe will host a special ‘Bloomsday Breakfast’ on Thursday June 16th, serving up a Full Irish Breakfast or plate of fried kidneys depending on taste and inclination. We will be serenaded by music from house band Noah’s Lark, with other guest performers engaging in poetry, song, recitation and ridicule – all in honour of the illustrious Mr. Joyce. All welcome to attend or contribute – Edwardian costume most favoured.

Following breakfast in the cafe, there are also a number of other events happening in Blackrock throughout the afternoon and evening of Bloomsday, culminating in a full-length costume drama, to be performed on the Main St. at 6pm. See website www.iloveblackrock.com for further details.
